Room

How do new ideas materialize?

Every few months, I go around my study, clearing surfaces, making piles, sorting shelves and generally getting rid of excess stuff. Honestly, I wish I could just ignore it, but it’s just not in my always-be-Knolling-nature.

Having learned to embrace my need for order, I do this until the room is clear. For me, this means that a new project has space to take shape.

Maybe carving this space comes with some kind of unsettled feeling. Why is this? Certainly, tearing ourselves away from the digital slot machine is designed to feel difficult, and maybe that’s part of it. If you are someone who can work through the ping of notifications, I commend you, I simply have to craft a larger distraction-sheild.

So, for those of you who like me, need a nearly empty room to get anything done, (I see you it’s ok!) you didn’t make those tasks, someone else did. Go ahead, hit silent. Throw something away, or even better, up-cycle it (yay earth!)

Now you are reclaiming your space. And your thoughts have room to come to life.
